No. You are not required to see a GP before you come to your appointment. However, we are happy to liaise with your GP with your consent.
The osteopath will need to look at the whole body as a part of the assessment and therefore patients are told to bring shorts/ loose fitting leggings and a vest top to change into, if not comfortable dressing down to underwear. There will also be blankets provided and you will be covered during most of the treatment.
In most cases 3-4 treatments will be required. However, for more chronic conditions a greater number of treatments may be required.
Many patients find it useful to common to a regular maintenance treatment to try and prevent any pain reoccurring.
The therapist will take a detailed case history about your complaint and also ask you questions regarding past medical history, any medications you are taking and whether you have any long term health conditions. If you have any details of XRAYs, medications or other scans please bring them with you. A physical assessment will then take place which will involve you performing simple movements. The osteopath will generally observe you and palpate your tissues to find any areas that require treatment. It may also be necessary to perform additional tests such as your reflexes, muscular strength and blood pressure.
After the examination, the osteopath will explain to you what they understand is going on and how they plan to treat you or if they think you require treatment from another practitioner.
You can bring one person with you, if this makes you feel more comfortable.
Yes. There is free parking for all customers in the car park found to the rear of the building (behind the pharmacy and through a set of white gates).
There is also ample street parking available in the residential streets.
You can cancel your appointment up to 24 hours before your appointment time. This will be at no cost. If you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours before your appointment, you may be charged 50% of your appointment fee.
If you do not show up to your appointment without notice, you will be charged the full appointment fee and be asked to pay upfront for any further appointments.
Osteopaths train for 4 years in university. During this time, a wealth of hands on clinical experience is gained, as well as theory knowledge.
After finishing the degree at university, osteopaths are required to complete a further 90 hours of continued professional development, every three years, to ensure their knowledge is up to date.
